Information on extended åroducer responsibility and distance selling
Distance selling refers to a company or other operator selling products covered by extended producer responsibility (EPR) directly to the user consumers or businesses in another country. Distance selling also includes sales from one EU country to another EU country.
The difference between distance selling and importing is that in distance selling the product is sold directly to the user, whereas in importing the product is sold on to another user by the importing company.
Who is a distance seller?
In Finland, distance sellers have had to meet extended producer responsibility obligations since 2021.
A distance seller established in Finland is an operator who sells products covered by extended producer responsibility from Finland to another country directly to the user.
A foreign distance seller is an operator established abroad who sells products covered by extended producer responsibility directly to Finnish users (consumers or businesses). Also sellers established in another EU country are considered foreign distance sellers.
