Whistleblower protection at the Finnish Supervisory Agency

The purpose of whistleblower protection is to ensure that you can report misconduct you witness in connection with your work with no fear of retaliation. Reporting misconduct is important in order to prevent threats and serious harm to the public interest.

Whistleblower protection is based on the national Whistleblower Act and the European Union Whistleblower Protection Directive. Employees, stakeholders and partners of the Finnish Supervisory Agency can use the whistleblowing channel to safely report any suspected misconduct that falls within the scope of the Whistleblower Act and Directive. Examples of the topics covered by the Whistleblower Act include public procurement, financial services and food safety. Read more about the requirements on the website of the Chancellor of Justice.

Through the whistleblowing channel you can report suspected misconduct safely, ensuring that your identity is protected. Whistleblower protection means that retaliation against the whistleblower is prohibited. For example, an employer cannot introduce poorer terms of employment for a whistleblower, terminate their employment relationship or lay them off as a result of a report. Employees of the Finnish Supervisory Agency can submit reports on the intranet using the internal whistleblowing channel. Persons who do not have access to the internal whistleblowing channel can submit reports through the centralised reporting channel provided by the Office of the Chancellor of Justice.  The report must concern a violation that falls within the scope of the Whistleblower Act in the activities of the Finnish Supervisory Agency. If you submit a report concerning the Finnish Supervisory Agency's activities using the centralised reporting channel, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice will refer it to the authority considered competent to process the report.
